One of the Eight Immortals, Philosopher Han Hsiang-tzu, was
born in Tang, nephew of Han Wên Kung2, grandson of Han Yu,
a prominent statesman. Han Yu was adamant that Hsiang-tzu
should give up his life of Daoism, so Hsiang-tzu demonstrated
the power of the Dao by pouring cup after cup of wine from
the gourd without end.

Han Hsiang-tzu is the patron saint of musicians. He is depicted
in this symbol as a peaceful mountain-dweller with flowers.
He is typically seen with his flute, giving and protecting life
with his music. The Philosopher Hsiang-tzu, also known
as the Pure Sage is said to have had a wild and
creative disposition.
